"Visual stories from Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine" Project's Third Residency in Haarlem, the Netherlands

Visual Stories from Armenia, Georgia and Uraine

The third residency program of the “Visual Stories from Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine” project with the participation of the team working on the product was organized in the Netherlands on 6-10 December 2024.

The project participant illustrators from the three participant countries led and accompanied by the editor of the project were hosted in Haarlem, the Netherlands to finalize the work on the graphic stories, present the already performed tasks, revise the texts/illustrations and receive instructions on the further action plan and tasks. To enrich and make the residency more impactful, an intense and rich programme of visits to the organizations representing local graphic novel/comics field was organized.

The participants of the residency program visited numerous comic salons, met with the professionals of the field.

In the framework of the residency, a meeting was organized for the illustrators with Eva Hilhorst, coordinator of the Drawing the Times project and new Consortium member of the project. Another important meeting was organized with Guido van Hengel – a writer, historian and cultural coordinator in the field of comics.  Recently, in the framework of the project, Guido delivered a lecture/conducted a webinar on historical research in the context of creating a graphic story.

Mikheil Tsikhelashvili, the editor curating the creation of the collection of graphic stories marked the completion of illustrating stage. 

 

The residency program was organized in collaboration with Drawing the Times project of the Mediaridders  Foundation.
