DIFFERENT STORIES Picture Books – Visit to Gegharkunik Regional Library after Vardges Petrosyan

On June 15th in the framework of regional visits of DIFFERENT STORIES Picture Books project ARI Literature Foundation team was hosted at Gegharkunik Regional Library to present the books “I Speak Through Dancing” and “The Champion” published as part of the project.

We met with children of different age groups from different schools, as well as their teachers and parents. We had a very interesting conversation about children’s literature, the importance of reading and its promotion.

The children read the books with great enthusiasm and said that the meeting gave them moments full of kindness, which they will remember for a long time and which they will share with their friends and families.

In the library, we also showed the film about Hayk Hobosyan to the children, which they watched with great interest.

Gevorg Afrikyan, a resident of Gavar, who was diagnosed with Infantile cerebral palsy at an early age, was also a guest at the meeting. Sharing his life story with the children, he noted that this diagnosis never kept him back from achieving his goals. With the help and unconditional support of his parents and teachers, Gevorg was able to overcome almost all the difficulties he encountered in his life. He is a multiple triathlete champion, a member of the Union of Mountaineers and Hikers of Armenia, he is a 4th year student at the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Armenia.

During the 2020 Artsakh war, he volunteered to participate in the war. Although he was not on the battlefield, he supplied the soldiers with necessary supplies throughout the war. Now he is establishing a training center for military disabled in Gavar, which will probably be opened in December.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Gegharkunik Regional Library and its director Mariam Hambardzumyan, for organizing the meeting and hosting us.
