PEN International is a worldwide association of writers, founded in London in 1921 to promote literature and intellectual co-operation among writers everywhere. Other goals include: to emphasize the role of literature in the development of mutual understanding and world culture; to fight for freedom of expression; and to act as a powerful voice on behalf of writers harassed, imprisoned and killed for their views.

PEN Armenia was founded in 1991 by the renowned Armenian poet, translator and public figure Gevorg Emin. In December 2017, the Armenian PEN Centre was registered as PEN Cultural Non-Governmental Organization, with Armen Ohanyan as the elected President.

Many Armenian writers, literary critics have joined PEN Armenia. You can find information about PEN Armenia and its members on the recently launched website www.penarmenia.org.

ARI Literature Foundation is proud and happy to be one of the first supporters of re-establishment of PEN Armenia Centre.
