ALERT!!! Humanitarian Crisis and Human Rights Violation in Nagorno Karabakh!!

You may not have heard much about our country, Armenia. Many of you, who have heard the name, won’t have much information about where it is or deeper details.  Thus, we can’t pretend to hope that you have heard about Nagorno Karabakh, a land inhabited by Armenians, and the situation surrounding this region for the past 30 years. However, what is happening right now, at this very moment, will have consequences for the whole developed and democratic world. Over 120,000 people living in Artsakh (internationally known as Nagorno Karabakh) are facing a humanitarian crisis because since December 12, 2022 Azerbaijan has blockaded the Lachin Corridor, the only roadway connecting Artsakh to Armenia.

Unfortunately, the international human rights and humanitarian organizations have proven to be helpless and useless in this matter, as they are either biased, or not able to function in this climate. Azerbaijan has completely blocked the supply of electricity and gas that Artsakh was receiving from Armenia. The delivery of all kinds of humanitarian supplies (food, fuel, medicine, means of hygiene, etc.) has been stopped for over 8 months. The humanitarian aid and medicine provided by the International Red Cross is unable to cover the demand or cannot reach Artsakh. On August 15th, 2023 the first death from hunger was reported.

The situation that we have today, proves that the Azerbaijani government, who has internationally recognized sovereignty over these territories and exercises control over the territory, doesn’t want to perform their duties and obligations to ensure the right to life, liberty and security of the people of Artsakh. This proves that there is no possibility for the peaceful cohesion of the Armenians of Artsakh under the current Azerbaijani government and this should be acknowledged by the international community.

The International Court of Justice ordered Azerbaijan to stop the blockade of Nagorno Karabakh, but nothing has changed since that time. The order is signed, but there are no legal mechanisms to make it work.

When the world was closing their eyes on the Genocide of Armenians in Turkey in 1915, they didn’t know that in August 1939, Hitler justified his plan to destroy Poland and create a new order by asking, “Who remembers now the extermination of the Armenians?”. We all know what happened next.

Did the world learn a lesson? Should 120,000 additional Armenians give away their lives so that it teaches another lesson to the world?

Azerbaijan’s government should be sanctioned! The rights of people should be revived, otherwise this precedent will become a tool in the hands of other dictators.

That’s where you come in. We need your help in educating yourselves and your communities about the situation and the history of the conflict. Please help us by spreading this news and feel free to  follow & share the links below:
