
The English edition of Last Night on Earth, a comics book created within the framework of the project Visual Stories from Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine was presented at the Yerevan International Book Fest. The Editor-in-Chief of the book Mikheil Tsikhelashvili (Georgia), illustrator of the Armenian story Astghik Harutyunyan were on the panel and the conversation was moderated by the Founding Director of ARI Literature Foundation Arevik Ashkharoyan.
During the discussion, the panelists spoke about the challenges and creative processes behind bringing such sensitive war stories into the comics format, the importance of visual storytelling in giving voice to untold stories, and the collaborative effort of authors, illustrators, and the editor across three countries. The project participants, illustrators writers and the editor, had first met and collaborated during creative residencies, where they exchanged experiences, developed ideas, and worked closely to shape the final stories.
The English translations of the stories are published on the Drawing the Times English language platform of graphic journalism of the Dutch partner of the project. The book will also be presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, on October 17, at 14:00 at Frankfurt International Stage. Translations in Armenian, Ukrainian and Georgian are on the way, and French and German translation will be negotiated at Frankfurt Book Fair, expanding the reach of these powerful stories to a global readership.
