PEN Armenia was the first PEN center to be founded in the post-Soviet region, established in 1991 by writer Gevorg Emin. In later years, the organization was led by the distinguished literary translator Anna Hakobyan and human rights defender Mikael (Mika) Danielyan, both of whom helped shape its mission and international engagement.
The current PEN Armenia Center was revived in 2017, continuing its role in promoting freedom of expression, supporting writers, and strengthening Armenia’s participation in global literary and cultural exchange projects.
