The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and ARI Literature Foundation are jointly implementing a research project titled “Cultural Memory: Soviet Past and its Reflection in Armenian Literature”.
In the frames of the project, this video presents the research “Literature Textbooks as a Tool for Creating Homo-Sovieticus: Armenian Literature in Soviet Schools” which was carried out by Vahram Danielyan and Artur Mirzoyan, Armenian language and literature lecturers at American University of Armenia. The research analyzes the guiding programs for teaching Armenian literature in schools and the changes that took place in them, starting from the 1920s to the 1980s. It outlines how some outstanding Armenian authors were interpreted in different periods of the Soviet era and how the Soviet Armenian students’ perceptions of the Armenian literature and its main authors were canonized over time.
The complete research can be found on the websites of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the ARI Literature Foundation.
